Script For The Book Of Genesis Is Now Complete

It has been a vary tedious process to say the least. Reformatting of a WORD document so that each verse will include a special code to distinguish it from the other verses. Verse by verse placing quotation marks around each spoken part. And then finally “feeding” this text into a program called the Dramatizer created by the good folks at JARRS.

This Program does 90-95% of the work of producing finished scripts for each character and creating blank audio files for each sound clip, so they can be easily recorded and post produced.

Right now our missionaries are making homemade recordings of scripture and teaching. This takes time away from ministry with people. The Task Force will release missionaries to do other work, by producing these programs for them.

Read how God is using even these homemade recordings here, and imagine how He could use thousands of professionally produced recordings. This is the vision of the GRTF.

GRTF Project Is Officially Approved

Praise the Lord. The GRTF project had become an official SIM project. This means that we can begin recieving funds to begin this project. Please pray and ask God if He would have you become a part of this ministry to the people of Paraguay.

Deputy International Director(DID) for the Americas Gives Approval

God's timing is perfect in every way. I just got off the phone with Eldon Porter our DID for the Americas and he informed me that he is willing to approve the project. He also gave several suggestions about how we might improve the project which were helpful.

Next the project must be approved by our International Director. Pray for this next step in the approval process. Pray that God would give everyone that sees this project both a vision for what it will be, and insight into where the project needs to be changed so that it would glorify our Lord even more.

New Tribes Missions in Paraguay Endorses the GRTF

Although New Tribes Missions is working with many different language groups in Paraguay, they were kind enough to listen to Paul Dreiling and me as we presented this project. We received this response in a recent email.

We applaud SIM’s recording project. It’s scope, both in the materials to be recorded as well as the training it will give to those involved in the project, is commendable. What a great tool for evangelism and for the teaching and grounding of the body of Christ!

Recording Wikipedia Style

Creating Recorded teaching materials for oral learners is still very new, and we, along with many, are still learning how to transform and create audio in the most effective way. This means trial and error, or what Miguel Osiw, the chaplain of our ministry, calls, "recording wikipedia style"

In the GRTF there will never really be any final product, rather there will be many final products that will hopefully be better than the one before. When the GRTF creates a recording for a missionary or Paraguayan Christian worker, we realize that this is only the "first draft". The workers will take the recording and put it into a real world setting in their place of ministry. There they will find out what works and what doesn't work. If something is not working or needs improvement, then the Task Force will continue to work with the worker until it is just what he or she needs.

There are also linguistic issues to contend with. Here in Paraguay, the acceptable Guarani vocabulary varies from place to place, and so what may be a finished product for one worker in a certain area, may need to be reworked for it's use in another.

After our recordings initial creation they never really stop being transformed through the applied feedback of all those who are using them in ministry.

Goals for the GRTF

We are trusting the Lord for the His grace, strength and finances to meet the following goals in 5 years from the time of our start.

Record the dramatized Old Testament
Record an informal expositional teaching of the New Testament.
Record 250 lessons for children
Record 250 lessons from Mentor and Multiply
Record 60 lessons of community development
Record 250+ programs requested by SIM PY missionaries
Record 250+ programs for outside ministries
Disciple 36 technicians

In all technical aspects of recording and production so they can minister in radio, local churches or other ministries using their acquired skills
In how to incorporate their faith in their work.

Establish a data base of names for those looking and providing jobs in Christian radio and recording ministries
Begin working with video producers to translate selected videos from English and Spanish to Guarani.

Mp3 Audio As A Distribution Method

SIM Paraguay is already using an "Audio Kit" to distribute Scripture portions, sermons, and music. The GRTF hopes to produce hundreds of lessons that can be placed on these devices or ones like them for use in the rural areas.

Each kit contains a "speaker pack", a MP3 player, 2-AA Rechargeable Batteries, 2-AAA Rechargeable Batteries, Battery Recharger, 5-SD Cards.

WHY SD CARDS/MP3 Players?

MP3 material can be easily produced and copied locally allowing us to use know leaders voices in the recording of important materials.

Due to remote locations, it is doubtful that users will have access to the technology required to erase or change the card’s contents.

People more quickly grasp the concept of changing a card in order to listen to different content.

Information is easily swapped and shared between users.

We minister to "Oral", "Field Dependent" learners which means that listening in groups is a more effective way to transfer information than written Bible studies.

The module nature of the system (player,speakers,charger,batteries) allows for cheaper maintenance and repair.

WHY ONLY 128M SD CARDS?

They are cheap
Used cards are available (In the US, they are becoming obsolete because of their small capacity)
The kind of players we use are inexpensive and have simple user interfaces with no visual feedback, like a screen.
People are very familiar with the concept of changing a tape or cd and so changing a SD card is an easy concept to understand.
Since only small amounts of content will be stored on each card, larger capacity cards would be a waist.
Many of the MP3 players we use do not handle over 2 sub-directories, once again making it difficult to organize and navigate larger bodies of content.

Paraguay Approval Received

Just today the Paraguay Field Director told me that the GRTF project was approved. Continue to pray that this project will be approved at the area level.

Project Approval Process Begins

The paper work is finally done and the GRTF project paper work has been submitted to the Paraguayan director and his advisory council for approval.

Once the project is approved at this level it will pass to the Deputy International Director for his approval.
